Bike Racer in Residence: Laurel Rathbun
( July 15 – August 8 )
We do a lot of math at TSH (which is hard because all of us went to art school and numbers were never on the agenda unless it was figuring out F-Stops and shutter speeds). When thinking about what our small blog could add to our summer agenda we thought an awful lot about flying to Europe and covering the Tour de France. We have done it before and can count a million cherished memories of camping and riding up mountains with cameras. However, when you add airline tickets, plus two weeks of rental cars, the occasional hotel, and backpacks full of Pain au chocolat it can get pretty expensive, so we unfortunately had to subtract that idea. We then started to ponder our internship program and thought maybe we could offer a young elite cyclist the opportunity to intern with us in Chicago (paid!) and also support their summer racing during one of the midwest’s best known criterium series. This would surely multiply the fun we would have this summer right??
Enter 19 year old Laurel Rathbun from Raleigh Clement Racing and Marian University. We have been in constant contact with this elite cx racer, aficionado of the velodrome, crusher of the criterium circuit, and beast of the mountain bike track since she modeled our inaugural TSH Resort Collection. Laurel has an impressive resume full of National Championships and has shined with Raliegh Clement obtaining impressive results which include several top tens and the podium at the North Carolina Grand Prix. Her inaugural collegiate career at Marian University has her rising to the top with a 2nd place finish at Collegiate Road Nationals. Her residency with Tenspeed Hero will run from July 15 – August 8. When she is off the bike we will be training Laurel in photography, design + production of content for our blog. On the bike Laurel will be racing the Intelligentsia Cup and traveling to Idaho with the Tenspeed Hero CX Team to ride, laugh, and assist us with our fall collection. If you know Laurel or have seen her at a race you will find her to be an intelligent and curious young woman whose many gifts include an generous smile and infectious laugh. We are so happy to share these three weeks with her!

Leave It On The Road has made an impact across the USA with their epic rides to raise money and awareness for cancer. With well over 3500 miles on their bikes and over $100,000 raised for various cancer organizations LIOTR has touched the lives of thousands of people and continues to do so. Their mission is inspiring and Tenspeed Hero could not be more proud and excited to join them on their journeys to come. Our new Leave It On The Road Jersey utilizes the TSH stripe design you know and love and has the message of LIOTR emblazoned down the side. When you ride around in this jersey you will become a part of the LIOTR team and begin your own awareness ride each time you get onto the saddle.

We have been working with Dani Arman, Madeleine Pape and Tricia Fleischer on a variety of skinsuits for training, criteriums, road and cross racing. The summer stealth skinsuit is without a doubt the most comfortable due to its ergnomic shorts and full lightweight (and very elastic) top. Skinsuits are the new black because you will never have to pull your jersey down again! Our summer stealth suit uses our TSH color palette and comes with fantastic details like mesh underarms and three rear pockets.

Our Summer Marine Skinsuit is light and simple, embodying exactly what we love here at TSH. We removed the side panels usually found on our skinsuits, making the construction as minimal and simple as possible – only 2 pieces. The top is made of ultra lightweight + highly breathable lycra. The bottoms are made of our favorite high density lycra, the same found in our team shorts. We made this piece with the hottest and sunniest days in mind and can imagine track riders beating their hour record while zipping around in this skinsuit. If you want to do a century ride in this garment then no worries, we added a single rear zipper pocket too!
