This July the Tenspeed Heroes are making Hailey, Idaho our Headquarters for a week or so to do some high elevation climbing and some dirt road mountain pass suffering. While riding for 7 days is a luxury for a modern day Hero, actually having two days for reconnaissance of various routes and dead ends maybe the greatest luxury of all. On this brief sojourn we found abandoned tennis courts, bullet-ridden signs, ankle deep gravel, hard-packed roads, sheer drop-offs, a fox, and impassable roads due to snow drifts and fallen trees. Oh, and we did stumble upon some fresh moose droppings.
Passing through washboard we mutter “mountain bikes” on another section of groomed hard-packed dirt we say “road bikes” and something inbetween we whisper “Cross Bikes?”
